The victim was identified as Jatinder Jain alias Jatin, a resident of Phase 9, Mohali. He ran a photography studio in Balongi called “MK Studio”.

According to police, he had climbed up to take aerial photographs and videos of the sangeet function below.

As he leaned forward from the balcony, his neck came into contact with the power line running in front of the second floor of the house, leading to electrocution. The impact was so great that his head was severed from the neck and fell to the ground floor, much to the horror of the family and guests.

The victim’s lifeless body remained on the balcony for three hours before electricity department personnel disconnected the power supply. The body was eventually lowered and shifted to Civil Hospital in Mohali’s Phase 6.

After autopsy, the body was handed over to the family and cremated on Sunday.

The victim’s friend Rohit said Jatinder had met with an accident around two years ago following which doctors implanted an iron rod in his arm. The family suspects that this led to Jatin coming into contact with the power line.
