Manawatū River search: missing man identified as serving New Zealand Defense Force member

The man missing in the Manawatū River is a serving member of the New Zealand Defense Force, Police participation.

A search continued today after man walking his dog fell into river at Ahimate Park, Palmerston North on Saturday.

The search involved the police National Dive Squad, police search and rescue personnel, a Swift Water Rescue boat, kayaks, drones, a helicopter and numerous other volunteers.

Inspector Ashley Gurney said the missing man is a serving member of the Defense Force (NZDF).

“NZDF members assisted police and provided logistical and search support along the river,” Gurney said.
