TVA, state agencies host meeting for Douglas Lake debris removal project

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and other agencies are working to host an “open house” for people around Douglas Lake to help with debris removal.

TVA told WVLT that they plan to host the event on Monday, November 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Field of Dreams Activity Center at 1145 Treadway Dr. in Dandridge.

The event will feature representatives from agencies such as the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), TVA, Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), US Army Corps of Engineers, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA ) and others. Each organization has representatives available to help answer questions.

This comes after flooding from Hurricane Helene brought tons of debris to Douglas Lake. With water levels low for the winter, much of the debris currently lies on the lake shores.

TVA and TWRA still have a boating advisory for floating debris in the lake as it can be a hazard to boaters.
