Saxophonist KingSax arrested for alleged rape of two sisters

Popular saxophonist and star of De Naija talent show, Sampson Udo, popularly known as KingSax, has been arrested for allegedly raping two sisters who invited him to perform at an event.

According to the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), the 27-year-old victim, Destiny Ameh, allegedly met Udo online and later invited him to her event at Elegushi Beach in Lagos on October 6.

According to the version of the story on the FIJ website, Grace Ameh, Destiny’s younger sister, said Udo lured her sister into the backseat of the car, “locked the doors, got on top of Destiny and forcibly had raped. He covered her mouth and put his weight on her.”

According to the FIJ, Destiny only filed a report two weeks later and didn’t tell anyone about it.

“Destiny left after the incident and sent him abuse when she got home, but never reported it because she was too stunned. Two weeks later, the victim opened up to Grace, and the case took a new turn.”

Grace on her part said her sister had gone to Akwa Ibom where she was stationed but “Two weeks after the incident she told me. I then called his number. He claimed the sex was consensual, so I asked why my sister would slam the car door if it was consensual, and why she would send him those messages afterward. He went mute and ended the call. I called him several times after that, but he didn’t answer. I sent him WhatsApp messages, he didn’t reply, so I went to X to call him.

The FIJ said Udo used his social media handles to deny the allegations, saying he was wrongly accused of rape after Grace’s story gained fame online.

He wrote: “My attention has been drawn to a post on Twitter(sic) from (redacted), with the username (redacted) already going viral. The message is to the effect that I had strong carnal knowledge with someone she claims to be her sister.

“I am innocent of this charge. The publication was created to slander and ridicule my burgeoning personality and brand. I have consulted my legal team.”

They also said that Grace was reportedly arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Lagos State Police where she was asked to pay N15 million, retract her statements and issue an apology to two national dallies.

“There were four male police officers questioning me, and I felt uncomfortable,” Grace said.

“I thought there would be at least one woman. Those police officers started mocking my sister and me. One said: ‘Does this fresh-faced boy look like someone who could rape someone?’

“Udo and his lawyer then told me to pay N15 million, withdraw my X-post and then publish an apology in two national dailies. I agreed to delete the message but declined the request for money. Then the police officers said that I would be detained because I could not arrange Udo financially.”

However, the whole story took a turn when Udo offered to depose Grace and her lawyer but allegedly ended up harassing and raping her.

Grace said: ‘He then drove to a restaurant and ordered alcohol but I refused. Soon after, I asked to leave because I had to pick up N2 million before the day was over to avoid a defamation lawsuit, but before I could get into the Uber I ordered, he asked me to give him my body in exchange for the money. I left.

‘The next day he sent his address and kept calling my phone, so I finally made the call. He sounded angry, said I didn’t mean it and that he would take me to court if I didn’t give him what he wanted in exchange for dropping the case. His lawyer also called me and harassed me. I then thought I would see him begging so he could consider dropping the case, but when I got there he jumped me, tore my dress apart and raped me.

However, the FIJ announced that Grace had collected evidence when she called Udo on November 12, adding that the Uber driver who witnessed the saxophonist’s harassment against her would act as a witness.

At the time this report was filed, the FIJ had yet to publish or make public the contents of the voice recordings due to “their mental horror content.”

According to FIJ, Udo was arrested by the SCID police on Thursday morning and is being held pending court charges, with the police also returning Grace’s N450,000.

An activist, Serah Ibrahim, revealed that Udo’s lawyer and girlfriend had been seeking an out-of-court settlement since his arrest as she and lawyer Inibehe Effiong, along with others, had been closely monitoring the case since Grace’s first arrest.
