Former Golden State Warriors forward Andre Iguodala revealed he was surprised when he received the 2015 NBA Finals MVP award instead of teammate Stephen Curry.

“I don’t know why they gave it to me, they were going to give it to Steph,” Iguodala said during an appearance on a stream by Twitch star Kai Cenat.

The Warriors won their first of four championships with Curry in 2015, defeating LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in six games.

The superstar point guard averaged 26.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game on 44.3/38.5/88.5 shooting splits over the series.

As for Iguodala, he recorded 16.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game while shooting 52.1 percent from the field against Cleveland.

The Cavaliers jumped out to an early 2-1 lead in the series, prompting Warriors head coach Steve Kerr to make changes to his starting lineup. In Game 4, Iguodala replaced center Andrew Bogut.

Golden State has emerged victorious in every game since getting the chance to win the series.

Curry wasn’t named Finals MVP that year, but he earned the honor during the Warriors’ championship win against the Boston Celtics in 2022.

However, Iguodala believes his former teammate deserved the award long ago.
