Three seriously injured during a stampede at secondary schools in Xinjiang, China

KASHGAR – Three students were seriously injured Monday in a stampede at a high school in Kashgar Prefecture, northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, local authorities said.

The three seriously injured people were treated in hospital, while eleven others with minor injuries were also hospitalized for further observation.

The stampede occurred around 3:25 p.m. at Kashgar No 8 High School when a student accidentally fell on the stairs of their dormitory, causing other students to fall from behind, the prefecture’s publicity department said.

At the time of the accident, the schoolboys were on their way to class from their dormitory.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.
