BREVARD COUNTY • WEST MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – West Melbourne police have arrested 21-year-old James Tafari Crooks for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly chased his girlfriend through the Avasa Hammock Landings Apartments while firing a 9mm gun shot towards her.

Police say the incident occurred just before midnight on Sunday when he fled the scene before police arrived, but was quickly located by officers near Palm Bay Road and taken into custody.

He was transported to the Brevard County Jail and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Crooks is being held without bond.
