NMSP officers arrest suspects accused of kidnapping five children

New Mexico State Police claim license plate readers led them to the vehicle containing the two suspects and the children who were allegedly kidnapped.

LORDSBURG, NM – Five children are safe after New Mexico State Police arrested two suspects in an alleged kidnapping case out of Texas.

Saturday, November 16, around 2:15 p.m., NMSP officers from Deming received an alert – BOLO – for a car with Texas license plates, driven by someone who had allegedly taken their five children and left the state. Officers learned that someone had reported the children as “missing and endangered.”

NMSP claimed that the use of an automatic license plate reader picked up the car. Officers followed the car to the Love’s Travel Stop in Lordsburg and found Qwaunice Tippitt. They identified Tippitt as the children’s biological mother. Officers also found Charles Jones with her.

Tippitt and Jones are now reportedly charged with kidnapping.

The children are now in the custody of Texas Child Protective Services.
