Officials are considering closing solar developments in Henderson Co.

HENDERSON, Ky. (WFIE) – In Robards, county officials are considering a two-year pause on new solar energy developments.

We spoke with officials who say they want to take the time to do more research.

At a special meeting workshop today, the fiscal court appeared to support a two-year moratorium on solar energy developments.

What follows is a formal vote at their meeting next week on whether to draft a letter to the Planning Commission.

During the two-year recess, the judge says he wants to investigate how the county’s two solar projects deal with several issues, including drainage, vegetation fences that hide the panels, the impact on wildlife and reflective glare.

He says he wants a solution that balances the property rights of the individual with minimal impact on the community.

We spoke with the mayor of Robards who was at the meeting on Tuesday.

He says it’s too late for them, but he hopes the province learns from their example.

Mayor Sellers encouraged us to look around Robards to see what impact solar energy has had on their community.
