Priest relieved of duties after financial scandal; allowed pop star to film naughty music videos in church in Brooklyn

A monsignor at a Brooklyn church where pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter filmed scenes for a risque music video has been removed from his position after church officials discovered he was involved in unapproved financial transfers to a former aide in Mayor Eric Adams’ administration. This is reported by the Associated Press.

mgr. Jamie Gigantiello was dismissed from “any pastoral oversight or administrative role” at Our Lady of Mount Carmel/Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Williamsburg, Bishop Robert Brennan said in a statement from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn, the report said. .

Church officials were more than a little annoyed when Gigantiello allowed Carpenter to film the suggestive video for her song “Feather” last year.

“I am saddened to report that investigations conducted by Alvarez & Marsal and Sullivan & Cromwell LLP have uncovered evidence of serious violations of diocesan policies and protocols at Our Lady of Mount Carmel – Annunciation Parish,” the bishop said. “To safeguard the public’s trust and protect the church’s funds, I have appointed Bishop Witold Mroziewski as administrator of the parish.”

The music video, which was released in 2023, features a series of men behaving badly towards Carpenter before being exterminated in a series of grisly, horror movie-inspired deaths.

At several points in the video, Carpenter is seen outside the church in a pink hearse before dancing on the altar in a short black dress and black veil, while colorful coffins are shown in the background.

According to the report, Gigantiello will still be allowed to celebrate Mass with Mroziewski’s permission, a diocese spokesman said.
