Celebrities who left Elon Musk’s X after the election of Donald Trump

In the wake of Donald Trump’s historic re-election to the presidency, a number of high-profile celebrities have left the Elon Musk-owned X.

In the final weeks of the election, Musk became one of Trump’s closest advisers and key financial backers, who financed the former president’s campaign to the tune of a reported $118 million. Trump has said he will consider Musk (who has worn many hats) for a role in a “government efficiency committee.”

Trump’s victory seems to have sealed the deal for many celebrities who are already sick of what they say is being raised wrong information and negativity on the platform, both as alleged censorship.

Gabrielle Union left X on November 15 with a post a long mission including her other social media channels and pledged: “I am committed to spaces where inclusivity, respect and integrity in the digital world are truly valued. Sometimes that means recognizing the last straw and knowing when to take a step back.”

Jamie Lee Curtis’ departure from X seemed to make a big impression in the media. On November 14 she posted on Instagram a screenshot of her deleted Twitter page with what is known in recovery circles as the Serentiy prayer:

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. Courage to change the things I can. And the wisdom to know the difference.”

That same day, old Twitter warrior Stephen King announced his departure from the platform.

‘I’m leaving Twitter’ wrote the author. “I tried to stay, but the atmosphere just became too toxic. Follow me on Threads, if you like.’

Also on November 14, Barbra Streisand made what she said it was her last post on Xwriting: “Effective immediately, all comments I post will be on Bluesky. #TwitterExodus”

Former CNN host Don Lemon had a brief and tumultuous run on X and launched an interview program was cancelled shortly after his first guest, Elon Musk, he didn’t like the gist of the questions. Lemon left forever on November 13, citing Twitter’s new terms of service, among other things.
