Liberal MP Tony Pasin accused of secretly filming Infrastructure Minister Catherine King’s open meeting

Liberal MP Tony Pasin is accused of secretly filming a meeting with Infrastructure Minister Catherine King along with a staff member.

Mrs King spoke openly about the alleged incident in the House of Representatives for the first time on Wednesday.

She claimed it happened during a session she regularly holds for members of parliament to speak to her about infrastructure projects.

“This afternoon the member for Barker and a staff member attended my ministerial office as part of the drop-in session,” Ms King said.

She told Parliament the pair entered the chamber and Mr Pasin had submitted a letter about a project in his electorate, in south-east South Australia, that he wanted the government to know about.

“I started interacting with him, but he left very quickly – I had to go to the Federation Room too,” she said.

“When he left my office, my staff saw that he had filmed the interaction on a GoPro in my ministerial office.”

Ms. King then claimed to have instructed one of her staffers to visit Mr. Pasin’s office to confirm whether he had filmed the interaction.

“A member of my staff followed the member for Barker and his associate into his office and noticed them downloading a movie onto a laptop,” she said.

The Infrastructure Minister said one of her staffers asked if the interaction between the Labor frontbencher and Mr Pasin was being filmed, which Ms King said the Liberal MP’s staffer admitted.

“The staff member confirmed that it had been filmed and that it had been filmed in the ministerial corridor,” she said.

“I consider this a significant violation of the rules. I consider it a significant violation of the way we conduct ourselves in this place.

“I ask Mr Speaker, as a result of the breach and discourtesy shown to me and my staff by the member for Barker and the seriousness of the breach, I ask that you consider providing a precedent for a motion addressing these matters referred to the Standing Committee of Privileges and Member Interests.”

Sky News understands the footage was filmed by an employee who was unfamiliar with parliamentary rules and was deleted as soon as Mr Pasin was informed.

Mr Pasin did not respond to questions from SkyNews.com.au about the incident.

Ms King declined to provide additional comment when contacted by SkyNews.com.au.
