How many people died in a village fire in Kitui

The devastating fire ripped through Kitui village in Majengo on Tuesday, November 19, killing six people and leaving more than a hundred families homeless.

“When I came back, I went outside to take off clothes, the fire was too intense. I tried to get into the house to save my family, but I couldn’t.

“They were all sleeping inside, and my husband was spelling while holding the children. One was six years old, another four years old and the last born one year old,” Muhonja painfully recounted.

Unable to enter her home and save her family, she watched helplessly as the fire consumed everything. The bodies of her loved ones have now been recovered.
