More Punk as imagined: “Sabotage” by Cats And Dinosaurs

The Gothenburg Band Cats And Dinosaurs is committed to Swing and Jazz – but my message comes straight from Punk.

“Oh my God, it’s a mirage/I’m telling y’all, it’s a sabotage!” No, it’s not the Beastie Boys and my new single anymore. Sondern is a new album by Cats and dinosaursthat the title is small with the altbekannten „Sabotage“ in common. Or perhaps even more, as a man at the first Blick erwartet. The band from Gothenburg focuses on its sound, such as swing and vintage jazz, hip hop and punk. But im Geiste since Cats and dinosaurs not more rebellious than the Beastie Boys.

Gleich in the title track is one of the larger themes: the profit-oriented ideology of capitalism, active sales and, of course, planetary destruction. That Lösung: everything sabotages. This is the band that lifted the Swing-Klängen. “It’s not fun, but we don’t mind, that’s the price,” he said. Other songs are hochaktuelle Titel with “Neoliberalism is dead” – kaum zu Bezweifeln nach Kamala Harris’ schmetternder Wahlniederlage –, “Heteronormativity” or gar “Macht kaputt was euch kaputt Kracht”.

Here it is not even a Ton-Steine-Scherben-Cover, a newly written song. But the German Text, written by Filip Bagewitz, is written in Dieselbe Richtung wie Rio Reisers Lyrics von Damals: “Das Streben nach Profit wächst unendlich Expansiv/Sie graben unser Grab, die Zeit läuft ab.” Cats and dinosaurs now common music, always have a basic formal festivities: As nostalgic the basic elements in the sounds may be, the message is so progressive. A Platz for a pair of moving Ballades (“Avskedsvals”, “Vaggvisa”) is present on the album.
