Man accused of assaulting an elderly person, causing multiple head wounds and fractures

SINGAPORE – A man appeared in the district court on Nov 21 after allegedly punching a 71-year-old man, causing multiple head wounds and fractures.

Mohamed Serajudeen Mohamed Yusoff, 31, was charged with voluntarily inflicting grievous hurt on the older man.

Court documents did not reveal the reasons behind the alleged attack.

The Singaporean is accused of punching and kicking the elderly man several times in the head at Block 151, Serangoon North Avenue 2, shortly before 4pm on November 19. The victim was taken to hospital after the attack.

Police said on November 20 that the two men did not know each other based on preliminary investigation.

Officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division established Serajudeen’s identity using CCTV and police camera footage.

He was arrested on November 20 near 91 Hougang Street, a police spokesman said.

Serajudeen’s case will be heard in court again on November 28.

For voluntarily causing serious harm, an offender can be jailed for up to ten years and fined or caned.
