Driver involved in pursuit identified by Williamsport police | News, sports, jobs

The driver taken into custody by city police late Wednesday afternoon after a high-speed chase in a stolen car was Dontay Jamal Robinson, 36, of Philadelphia, according to court records.

The pursuit began near Second and Rural avenues around 5:20 p.m. after an officer failed to see Robinson, driving a Chevrolet Malibu, stop at two stop signs.

During the chase, which lasted about 10 minutes, Robinson ran more than a half-dozen additional stop signs and drove twice the 25 mph speed limit in certain neighborhoods, an affidavit alleged.

Robinson, whose local address is 627 First Ave. also turned off the car’s headlights in an attempt to avoid the officer, police said.

The chase made its way to George and Sheridan streets in the city’s East End, where Robinson jumped from the car after it jumped a curb and landed in a front yard, police said.

After a brief foot chase with officers, Robinson was taken into custody on charges of fleeing police, receiving stolen property plus several felonies and misdemeanors, including evading arrest, recklessly endangering another person, speeding and reckless driving.

It was only after the chase that officers learned the vehicle had been stolen from Philadelphia.

Following his arraignment before District Judge Kirsten Garder, Robinson was booked into the Lycoming County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
