Woman struck by tractor-trailer while crossing Turnpike in Westmoreland County

Officials in Westmoreland County say a 27-year-old woman was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer Wednesday evening while allegedly trying to cross the Pennsylvania Turnpike on foot.

Investigators say the incident took place near the Donegal junction at around 11.30pm

Authorities say multiple first responders were dispatched to the crash scene, near the 56-mile westbound lane, for reports of a crash involving a tractor and a pedestrian.

Turnpike officials say traffic was rerouted for hours while crews were on scene.

State Police in Greensburg are investigating the cause of the crash.
