Novak Djokovic announces that former rival Andy Murray will join his coaching team

Novak Djokovic announced this on social media on Saturday Andy Murray will join his coaching team for the off-season and the Australian Open.

Murray, who retired after 2024 Olympic Gameswill work alongside his former competitor on the field in this new role.

“We played against each other since we were boys. Twenty-five years in which we have been rivals, pushing each other beyond our limits. We had some of the most epic battles in our sport,” Djokovic said in the posted video social media.

“They called us game changers, risk takers, history makers. I thought our story might be over, but it turns out it has one final chapter. It’s time for one of my toughest opponents to step into my corner. Welcome aboard coach Andy Murray.”

Djokovic has won the most men’s Grand Slam titles of any player with 24 and will hope Murray can help him win a record-extending 25th title at the Australian Open in January.

“I am happy that one of my biggest rivals is on the same side of the net as my coach,” Djokovic said in a statement to the Associated Press.

“I’m looking forward to the start of the season and competing in Australia with Andy, with whom I have shared many exceptional moments on Australian soil.”

Murray shared Djokovic’s excitement about the new role.

“I’m going to join Novak’s team in the off-season and help him prepare for the Australian Open,” Murray told AP.

“I’m really excited and looking forward to being on the same side of the net as Novak for a change and helping him achieve his goals.”

Murray enjoyed a successful playing career, winning three grand slam titles and two Olympic gold medals.
