Prairie Village YMCA announces surprise closure

The tragic swan song of an important community resource shocked many local residents this week.

Here’s some context and a reminder that community building is becoming increasingly difficult in modern times:

“The City of Prairie Village led an effort for a multi-million dollar YMCA operated community center.

“Recently, the city decided not to move forward with the project.

“The Paul Henson Family YMCA responded to that decision on Thursday by announcing that their Prairie Village location will close on December 20.”
