A new documentary has been launched Netflix delves into the enigmatic case of JonBenet Ramsey, who was found dead in her parental home on December 26, 1996.

The six-year-old girl was discovered in the basement after being sexually assaulted and murdered in the building.

The three-part series, which will be released on the streaming platform, will once again draw attention to the house and the horrific events that unfold within its confines.

Located in Boulder, Colorado, the murder was notably the only homicide reported in the city in 1996. It quickly became a high-profile media case and has been that way for years.

But what happened to the building where the body was found? Who lives there now and what challenges have they encountered?

After the death of their youngest child, the Ramseys left home. They had bought it for $500,000 (£400,000) in 1991, reports the mirror.

It was initially sold to an investor for $650,000 (£518,000). The family donated their winnings to the JonBenet Ramsey Children’s Foundation.

The five-bedroom, 5.5-bathroom Tudor includes a penthouse on the top floor with two bathrooms and a kitchen with separate catering kitchen.

Carol Schuller Milner, along with her husband Timothy, became the owners of the infamous home in 2004, almost eight years after JonBenet’s tragic demise. Carol spoke about her intentions behind the purchase and expressed a desire to transform the reputation of the property, saying: “This has become a dark monument, this thing that just stood there, just a constant reminder of something terrible that happened , and I just believe in undoing things like that. It’s a beautiful place to live.’

The Milners’ purchase of the home coincided with their need for a more spacious location for their ministry activities in Boulder. It is notable that Carol draws her ancestry from the late televangelist Robert Schuller, who led a popular TV series in the United States for four decades.

According to a New York Post report, attempts to foreclose on the property have failed six times by the current owners, with the most recent attempted sale taking place earlier this year, regardless of successive price reductions. Realtor.com notes that although the property, built in 1927, hit the market in November 2022 with a hefty price tag of $7.25 million (about £5.8 million), subsequent markdowns saw it drop to $6.249 million (almost £4.9 million). .

Despite these adjustments, a renewed offer failed to attract potential buyers. The increased list prices we see today can be attributed to inflationary pressures. Records indicate the house has been on the market intermittently since 2008, with asking prices between $2.3 million and $1.95 million (£1.8 million to £1.5 million) in the years 2009, 2011 and 2014.

Specialists have suggested that the property’s connection to the JonBenet Ramsey case could be the reason behind its inability to sell.
