19-year-old seriously injured in Byron Twp. neighborhood accident

BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – A 19-year-old was hospitalized early Sunday after crashing his vehicle into a parked vehicle in a Byron Township neighborhood, officers say.

Around 4 a.m., the Byron Center man was driving north on Whistlevale Drive SW when he crossed into the opposite lane and struck a vehicle that was parked, according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Office. The 19-year-old was driving “at a high rate of speed,” officers said.

He was the only person in the vehicle and was seriously injured, the sheriff’s office said. Arriving emergency workers provided first aid and then he was taken to hospital by ambulance.

According to police, alcohol was the cause of the accident.
