Ressence TYPE 8 Indigo Limited Edition info

Ressence has unveiled a striking new time counter inspired by the timeless art of Japanese indigo dyeing: the TYPE 8 INDIGO. This seductive timepiece is a celebratory release for Ressence’s long-time partner in Tokyo, Shellman’s recent store expansion. At the same time, it is also the independent watch brand’s contribution to The Indigo Project that Shellman leads.

Taking the theme seriously, the TYPE 8 INDIGO took a much more interesting and artisanal approach by integrating indigo into the design of the watch. Ressence worked together with specialists from BUAISOU to showcase the delicate beauty of natural indigo by applying a hand-dyed silk thread to the dial. “Adding thread to a dial is an unusual practice in watchmaking, and for Ressence this is the first time we have incorporated an Arts & Métiers craft into one of our watches,” says Ressence founder Benoît Mintiens.

The resulting dial exudes a unique allure, formed by an organic yet structured pattern reminiscent of intricate embroidery. Due to the natural dyeing process, the color of the thread is not completely uniform, creating a gradient-like effect.

This special iteration is housed in grade 5 titanium with a case diameter of 42.9mm and meets the usual specifications of the TYPE 8. The watch has a power reserve of 36 hours and runs on a patented Ressence Orbital Convex System 8 module with a modified automatic base caliber.

Ressence’s TYPE 8 INDIGO, complete with a warm gray Saffiano calfskin strap, can be viewed at Shellman’s Isetan Shinjuku Watch Shop in Toyko.
