Leicester news: Steve Cooper sacked – analysis

Former Premier League midfielder Don Hutchison says he is “not shocked” by Steve Cooper’s dismissal for his “passive” performance against Chelsea on Saturday.

The Foxes are sixteenth in the Premier League and one point above the relegation zone.

“I’m not shocked because unless he took the job and transferred the style it was almost inevitable he would be sacked,” Hutchison said on the BBC Radio 5 Live Football Daily podcast. “That’s because of the history between Leicester and Nottingham Forest and the reaction of the fans.

“Their application against Chelsea is perhaps the reason they didn’t really do anything in the first 45 minutes. They didn’t apply any pressure, they didn’t run around and they didn’t press.

“It was almost like they were so petrified that they were in their position and passive. I watched and thought, when are they going to do something in this match!

“But for what it’s worth, even though Cooper was fired, I don’t think it did any damage to his career.”
