One dead, one injured in house fire in South Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – One person is dead and another is injured after a house fire broke out overnight in the South Valley.

The Clark County Fire Department received the first reports of the fire in the building around 12:47 a.m. Saturday. Arriving units found smoke and flames coming from a single-story, multi-family residence in the 9400 block of Las Vegas Boulevard.

Firefighters began working to extinguish the fire and protect other units. At the same time, firefighters began searching the adjacent units for residents.

At one point, the roof of the house partially collapsed, although firefighters were then able to enter and continue their search.

A total of 14 residents were displaced and countless pets were rescued. However, one person was confirmed dead at the scene and another was transported to hospital where they are currently stable.

Damage is estimated at approximately $500,000. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
