Man admitted to hospital after cutting off genitals in Gatundu

A 42-year-old man from Wanugu village in Gatundu South is recovering at Gatundu Level Five Hospital after cutting his testicles with a blunt machete.

The shocking incident took place on Saturday, November 23, 2024, during what he described as a desperate attempt to overcome alcoholism.

From his hospital bed, the man revealed that his struggle with harmful alcohol use had brought him to the brink of despair.

After repeated failed attempts to quit drinking, he said anger and hopelessness overcame him, leading to a suicide attempt.

Separated from his wife and three children, the man attributed his personal and economic problems to years of alcohol abuse.

He appealed to religious leaders to pray for him and urged others struggling with alcoholism to seek help.

“Every time I am sober, I am at peace,” he said, adding that alcohol has no economic value and only has disastrous consequences.

A surgical report obtained by journalists confirmed that the man underwent a major scrotal examination, which included examination and treatment of injuries to the testis through an incision in the scrotum.

Efforts to reach medical staff at Gatundu Level Five Hospital for an update on his condition were unsuccessful.

The man’s ordeal is a stark reminder of the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of accessible mental health and addiction recovery systems.
