No bail for man charged with attempted sexual assault of Miami Springs smoke shop clerk – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

MIAMI SPRINGS, FL. (WSVN) – Police have arrested the man they said tried to sexually assault a sales associate in a smoke shop in miami springs.

Armbrister turned themselves into detectives days after 7News aired a story showing surveillance video of the attempted attack.

“I think this is largely due to the great work that the police have done and what you have done for me in sharing this with everyone,” said saleswoman Ahiline Campos.

Tyrone Armbrister, 30, was charged with sexual assault without serious injury, false imprisonment and burglary with assault or battery.

“My biggest message to everyone out there is: If you come into Miami Springs and commit crime, you will get caught. You will be arrested and you will have to serve your sentence,” said a detective.

During his court appearance on Monday, a judge denied Armbrister’s bond.

According to Miami Springs police, Armbrister entered the Red Eye Smoke Shop on Canal Street on Nov. 9, where 20-year-old Ahiline Campos worked as a sales associate.

Campos said he asked her about cigars, bought a few and left, only to return shirtless and with sinister intentions.

Surveillance video captured portions of the struggle and showed Armbrister attacking the victim and dragging her to a storage room where he attempted to sexually assault her.

She kicked, screamed and even hit her attacker with a toilet plunger to get away.

“I wouldn’t let him do it, that’s all I knew,” she said. “I was going to get a piston. I was going to get what I could, but I didn’t let him do it at all and he could have done it. He could have just punched me and that was it.”

Campos’ pleas to stop were ignored.

She was able to fend off Armbrister and lied to him about pressing an emergency button to send the police.

“If you could do it when you were drunk or high, you could do it when you had a conscience,” she said.

He then ran off, but was later arrested.

Now Campos is back at work, exclusively doing the morning shift, but she’s trying to move forward.

“I just know I have to keep going and be strong,” she said.

She said she chose to speak out to show other survivors the power of their voice when they share their stories.

“There are a lot of girls there, that’s why I decided to talk, because they could see that. “If I had the opportunity that you gave me to say something, I wanted them to know that they could do that too,” she said.

As police continued to search for Armbrister, officers said he tried to disguise himself by cutting his hair and shaving his beard.

When he was questioned, police said he confessed to crimes and was arrested.
