Woman seriously injured by unmarked police car in Emersons Green

A 19-year-old woman has potentially life-changing injuries after she was struck by an unmarked police car while on foot.

The car was responding to an emergency and traveling through Emersons Green, South Gloucestershire, when it collided with the pedestrian at a roundabout at around 6.30pm GMT on Sunday.

Avon and Somerset Police say the woman received first aid from police officers and paramedics before being taken to hospital.

Following the incident, the force referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which is mandatory.

The police car was driving with blue lights and a siren at the time of the incident.

The officers in the vehicle were not injured in the collision and will receive assistance from Avon and Somerset Police.
