Another reward is being offered after a dog was found with serious burns in a ditch in Darlington County

DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Another reward is being offered for information in a Pee Dee dog abuse case.

Darlington County Sheriff’s Office said that on Nov. 9, a female black Labrador retriever was found in a ditch near North Governor Williams Highway and Beckys Lane.

The dog had severe burns to its face, legs and back.

On Monday, the Humane Society of the United States said it would offer a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of those responsible.

“I can’t imagine how someone could deliberately set a dog on fire, or how much pain and suffering this poor dog had to go through. This incomprehensible cruelty must be met with justice,” said Janell Gregory, South Carolina state director of the Humane Society of the United States. “We are incredibly grateful to the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office for its full investigation into this crime, and we hope the reward leads to the arrest of those responsible for this heinous act.”

The sheriff’s office also said Crime Stoppers of the Pee Dee is partnering with Hoof and Paw of South Carolina to offer a reward of up to $1,500 for any information leading to an arrest.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office at 843-398-4501 or Crime Stoppers of the Pee Dee at 888-247-6372.
