Woman accused of embezzling more than $200,000 from Jonas Brothers restaurant

BELMONT, NC (WBTV/Gray News) – A woman is accused of embezzling tens of thousands of dollars from a restaurant owned by the Jonas Brothers family in North Carolina.

Authorities say more than $200,000 disappeared from Nellie’s Southern Kitchen in Belmont, owned by Kevin and Denise Jonas, between 2016 and 2020.

Kevin and Denise Jonas are the parents of the famous pop-singing Jonas Brothers trio of Kevin, Joe and Nick.

Police said Joy Nichols Auten, a former manager at the restaurant, withdrew $251,986 from an account when only $28,798.47 was supposed to be withdrawn, leaving more than $223,000 in unaccounted withdrawals.

More than $93,000 in cash is said to have been deposited into her personal bank account during that time

Auten was arrested and charged with five counts of embezzlement by an employee.

She was later released after posting $25,000 bail.

Police said the investigation was ongoing.

The Jonas family has two Nellie’s locations, one in Belmont and the other in Las Vegas.
