This year, thefts have already passed the 900 mark, but the recovery rate has not even exceeded 50. In 2022, a total of more than 756 thefts took place and 416 cases were solved. A total of over Rs.6.19 crore worth of property loss took place but only Rs.3.01 crore was recovered.


Although there are more than enough police personnel in the Commissionerate, most thefts and burglaries are not solved. Even as police conduct nakabandis, patrol at night and check vehicles, there has not been much of a decline in theft cases.

“The police always have a difficult task in detecting theft cases. It is after a long investigation, tips from informants, keeping track of the registered criminals property crimes and various other investigative methods through which the police catch the culprits,” said a police officer.

Police claim that given the manner in which the recent thefts took place in Warangal city and surrounding areas, it appears that professional gangs are active in Warangal. Police officials claimed it spawned professional gangs Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradeshrajasthan Tamilnadu and other areas often commit thefts within the limits of the Warangal Commissionerate. The operation of inter-state gangs in the city and surrounding areas makes it challenging for the police to identify the criminals.

The theft of gold worth over Rs 13 crore from SBI Bank Rayaparthy branch caused uproar across the state. Police have formed special teams to identify the suspects but have not found any clues so far.

While the frequent thefts in the Warangal Commissionerate are creating a stir, there is criticism that police officers are failing to stop them. The people want the police to focus on the thefts, identify the criminals and increase focus on recovering the stolen money and gold.
