Three confess to attacking a monk at a Bangkok TV station

Three people have confessed to this attack a monkciting personal feelings as motivation and denying any hired involvement. The incident took place at a popular television station and left the monk injured.

The lawyer for the three suspects, 45-year-old Panuphan, 56-year-old Thanathat and 53-year-old Chawalit, addressed the media yesterday, November 25 at 12.40 p.m. Bang Khen Police Station about their involvement in the attack at Phra Khru Palad Thirathana Nareuthara Metta Thammo, also popularly known as พระปีนเสา (monk who climbed the pole).

The attorney briefly stated that they would provide statements to investigators before delving further into the case. When asked about the possibility of being hired for the attack, he curtly replied that no such arrangement existed.

Investigators initially charged the trio with two crimes: assault and first-degree assault. The charges stem from the fact that the suspects arrived together, planned the attack and waited for the monk to finish filming a television program before carrying out their plan.

All three suspects have admitted crime and expressed willingness to provide compensation to the victim. In particular the person who performed the flying kick, an ex-boxernoted that he was unsure of the force he applied on the kick, fearing that it would knock the monk unconscious.

The three suspects avoided being photographed by journalists as they entered and left the north Bangkok District court regulates bail proceedings.
