TSHWANE – Four foreign store owners have been arrested after allegedly shooting at community members in Atteridgeville.

One person, a 32-year-old man, was injured during the incident, which occurred in the Saulsville area on Monday, November 25, 2024.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said four men were subsequently arrested and charged with attempted murder.

“The community informed responding officers that Somalis (nationals), who were in the spaza, had shot one community member.

“The victim (suffered) a gunshot wound to his right hand and (his) upper right leg. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.”

The suspects were found in the store and arrested. Nevhuhulwi said they were expected to appear court soon.

The Soweto community wants Ramaphosa gone

In related news: Short news reported that many Gauteng residents Soweto are furious after President Cyril Ramaphosa’s blanket ruling that unregistered local or foreign spaza shops must do so within 21 days.

An opposing party on November 19 prevented other community members from registering spaza shops owned by foreigners who rented space on their premises at a customer service center in Jabulani.

A few days earlier, on November 15, Ramaphosa addressed the nation at the food poisoning crisis that has been plaguing South Africa since the beginning of the year.
