Iskra Lawrence explains why she says baby No. 2 offered her a “redemption birth.”

Model Iskra Lawrence experienced a “redemption birth” when she welcomed her daughter Phillip Payne last month.

“It’s just incredible to look back because you’re just in it. You made the choice. You are at home, there is no pain medicine,” said 34-year-old Lawrence We weekly exclusively about her home birth, while promoting her collaboration with her Elvie’s Stride 2 breast pump. “It just does something chemical to you where you think, ‘Wow, I’m doing this and the only way this pain is going to be over is when I meet my daughter.’ It’s so amplified because you’re so relieved, you’re so excited, you’re so grateful, you feel so powerful.”

However, Lawrence admitted it wasn’t a perfect delivery. Her daughter got stuck in ‘the ring of fire’ – a term the model used to describe the baby’s coronation.

“That was testing. I almost fell asleep, mid-contraction, just to try and say, ‘Okay, just let me sleep through it so I can go crazy on the next contraction.’ It’s your most raw, animal form,” she recalled, noting that Payne was “encouraging” me the entire time.

Lawrence and Payne are also parents to 4-year-old son Alphawhich they also welcomed during a home birth. Lawrence previously called Alpha a “miracle baby” and revealed in a 2020 Instagram caption that he had to be resuscitated by their midwife.

“The second time, because he knew what to expect, (Payne) was more into it and less worried about everything else,” Lawrence also told Us. “My son got stuck, which again is very, very normal, especially if you have a quick delivery. The same thing happened the second time, but the difference was that my new midwife just let me trust my body and we just the contractions were waiting. That could have happened the first time, but it didn’t.”

This time, Lawrence said she was “part of the whole” this time.

“No one intervened, and even though she got a little stuck, we just pushed through it and it worked,” she said. “I hope so many more women can experience these births of redemption.”

Lawrence called it “everything I wanted it to be.”

After welcoming baby No. 2, Lawrence teamed up with Elvie to promote their Stride 2 breast pump, which “impressed” the model – and made her life easier.

“I never expected that pumping would be such a big part of my life. I really assumed breastfeeding would be easy,” she explained Us. When Lawrence welcomed her son during Covid, she felt “so isolated and stressed,” so the Elvie pump helped.

“The double pump allowed me to still have the confidence to go out and do the things I wanted to do,” she said. “Continue with the things I need to do around the house, but still commit to giving my son my milk, which seemed important to me because breastfeeding has been such a struggle.”

Laurens kept all her breast pumps just before the birth of her daughter, but didn’t know what to expect.

“Every baby is different,” she said, adding that connecting with the Elvie team was a challenge. “I like what they stand for. I love that they are empowering women with technology that is for women. I heard about the Stride 2 and as soon as I used it I was like, ‘Okay, wait. This is incredible. ”

The pump itself “can connect to anything you wear,” so new moms can go out in public.

“It’s really helped me build this incredibly strong supply, which makes me feel relieved and less stressed,” Lawrence added. “This time it was just great to still have the option of the dual pump I’ve always used, and then this brand new Stride 2, which is my main pump. It has kept my supply high.”
