A Durham police officer was injured Monday while helping a student in crisis at a local high school

According to Durham Public Schools, the incident happened around 12:40 a.m. Monday at Riverside High School and involved a student resource officer from the department.

Durham police said a reserve officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

It is unclear if the officer was the SRO at the school, as these positions are usually filled by the Durham County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say only one student was involved and the student was not injured. Authorities took the student to the hospital for evaluation.
