Passenger killed in car crash, fire in Ellington

ELLINGTON, CT (WFSB) – A passenger was killed in a car crash and fire in Ellington Monday evening.

The passenger could not be identified, according to state police.

The accident happened on Sandy Beach Road, also known as Route 140.

According to police, the driver of the Kia Sorento lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree.

The driver and another passenger managed to escape before the Kia caught fire. Their injuries are said to be minor.

State police said the second passenger succumbed to injuries from the collision and would be identified through further investigation.

Route 140 was shut down at Buff Cap Road.

The accident happened around 8 p.m

The road has now reopened.
