Man charged in shooting of teen at Timbers Apartments; victim in critical condition: LPD

An arrest was made Friday in the shooting at Timbers Apartments that sent a 16-year-old boy to the hospital for gunshot wounds.

ABC13 reported from the crime scene on Nov. 22, where police told us a teenager had been shot in the abdomen. At the time, a man was arrested in the case and later released, but police also said that was the case several people involved in the investigation.

In an update on Nov. 26, Lynchburg police released more information about the case and said an arrest had been made. On the same day of the shooting, police searched a home at The Timbers Apartments where the shooting occurred.

“On November 22, 2024, Bruce Darnell Cunningham Jr., 34, of Lynchburg, was arrested and charged with three counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon,” LPD said. “He is also charged with domestic violence, assault and strangulation in connection with a separate incident on the same day.”

Police said the investigation is ongoing and the teen remains in critical condition due to his injuries.
