Speaker Biman Banerjee rejected the motion moved by BJP members Tapasi Mondal and others on protection of children and women in the state but allowed it to be read out.

However, when BJP MLA Tapasi Mondal read out some portions that were not allowed, the Speaker said these will not be made public.

After the walk, BJP chief in the House Shankar Ghosh told reporters outside the Assembly that the Speaker had given permission to read an edited version of the motion in the House.

Ghosh claimed that Tapasi Mondal’s microphone was switched off when she read out the motion and said the BJP MLAs had staged the strike in protest.

He said the motion was filed to highlight the issue of women safety in the state following incidents like the rape and murder of a doctor on duty in the state. RG Kar medical college and hospital and other cases.
