New Delhi: The Supreme Court has stayed the hearing of several petitions seeking cancellation of the Palmolein case. The hearing has been postponed until after the Christmas holidays. The Supreme Court also indicated that there will be no further delay in the future.

The pending petitions have been filed by former chief vigilance commissioner PJ Thomas, former chief secretary Jiji Thomson and Congress leader late TH Musthafa. However, Musthafa’s appeal has been removed from the court files because he has passed away.

Today, PJ Thomas’ lawyer requested a postponement of the hearing, citing the senior lawyer’s discomfort. The Supreme Court expressed its dissatisfaction over the repeated postponement of a case that has been pending for a decade. Nevertheless, the bench comprising Justices MM Sundresh and Arvind Kumar agreed to adjourn the hearing as the request was reiterated by the lawyer.

The petitions filed in 2012 were submitted to the court for hearing today (Wednesday). The Supreme Court had earlier made it clear that there was no bar to proceeding with the trial.
