The son of one of the victims painfully recounted the events before the incident, vividly recalling his last conversation with his mother on the fateful November 26.

Kelizi Silunjili said they had agreed that he would accompany his mother to plow the next day as his sister was unwell and needed to go to hospital.

“My last conversation with her was yesterday before she passed away. We were on the farm with Mom while she was weeding.

“I asked her to tell me who would accompany me to the farm to plow the next day and even suggested my sister, but she refused and said that my sister was still young and said she would go with me,” he said.

Silunjili explained that he saw the rain coming and suggested he go home, but the woman insisted on finishing the part she had started weeding.

“The rain was coming and I told her I was going home, and she insisted on finishing a small area that still needed weeding. I left her and went home,” he added.

However, he was forced to take shelter in a structure his father had built when the rain started a few minutes later.

He explained that they sheltered there with his family until they heard a child crying outside, all alone.

“We heard a child crying from a distance; After looking for a moment, I saw my sister running to the shelter in tears. She said our mother was on the floor,” he said.

The young man remembers running to where he left his mother and finding her and his aunt lying on the ground.

“My father arrived on the scene and was stunned because he didn’t know what to do. An uncle came and arranged how the bodies would be transported from the scene,” he added.

Lightning strikes five family members in Nakuru

In other news, TUKO.co.ke reported that five relatives were hospitalized in Keringet Nursing home and sub-provincial hospitals of Olenguruone after being struck by lightning.

According to their mother, Emily Cheruiyot, the five were in the same room and using their phones when the tragedy struck.
