17-year-old charged with murder in South Side shooting surrenders to Columbus police

A teenager charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old woman has surrendered to Columbus police.

The teenage man, a 17-year-old, has been charged with murder and four counts of assault in connection with the fatal shooting of Taarah Griffin-Carmichael on the city’s south side.

The Dispatch is not releasing the names of the suspect, who surrendered himself to police on Wednesday, Nov. 27, until he is charged as an adult in the county’s Common Pleas Court.

Columbus police responded to a report of a shooting around 8:50 p.m. Nov. 18 at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where they found Griffin-Carmichael suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

Griffin-Carmichael employees took her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 9:18 p.m

Detectives have not publicly released a motive for the shooting, but have determined it occurred in the 200 block of Highview Landing on the city’s South Side.
