Latest Middle East: Hezbollah vows to continue resistance after ceasefire | World news

A spokesperson for the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) says their forces are still in southern Lebanon and will “gradually withdraw in accordance with” the ceasefire.

Daniel Hagari said Israeli aircraft are also still flying in Lebanese airspace to gather intelligence and are “prepared to act where necessary.”

He added that the IDF “operated to enforce the ceasefire” and had “identified suspects approaching restricted areas, detained them and fired warning shots” (see message 16.24).

Mr. Hagari said Israel would respond to any ceasefire violation “with fire” and that the army was making the necessary preparations for the possibility of a return to “intense fighting.”

Reflecting on the fighting in Lebanon, he said Israel has carried out airstrikes on 12,500 Hezbollah targets since the start of the war.

About 180 of these were affected overnight, in the hours before the ceasefire took effect, he added.
