Two men arrested during drug bust in Fostoria

FOSTORIA, Ohio (WTVG) – Crack cocaine, heroin and drug money. This is what officers from the Seneca County Drug Task Force say during a drug bust on Monday, November 26, 2024.

It started in a house on the 700 block of Cherry Street in Fostoria. Officers from the METRICH Enforcement Unit, the Fostoria Police Department, and federal agents from the Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms (ATF), Toledo Division, attempted to execute a search warrant.

That’s when they say Clarence Dave Smith Jr., 53, a known fugitive, left the home and initiated a short chase. It ended in the 900 block of N. Main St., where officers hid him in a garage.

According to the task force, Smith had illegal drugs and money on him. After taking him into custody, officers said they searched the home and found a small amount of cocaine and instruments consistent with drug dealing and abuse.

They then arrested Christopher Conley, 46, who lives in the home.

In a statement, Fostoria Police Chief Gabriel Wedge wrote:

“The Task Force has indicated that Mr. Smith is a person of interest in the drug trade that is plaguing our community. We have received several complaints about him and the home at 739 Cherry Street, which is suspected of illegal drug sales. We will continue to use all available resources to prosecute these individuals who choose to poison our community. This is certainly not Mr. Smith’s first rodeo suspected of being involved in drug trafficking.”

Both men now face charges in connection with the arrest.
