The support of a Chinese diplomat sparks outrage in Japan over foreign interference in the elections

China’s consul general in Osaka has sparked a diplomatic storm by backing a Japanese left-wing party, sharply criticizing and raising concerns about foreign interference ahead of the country’s general election.

Xue Jian, known as one of Beijing’s outspoken “wolf warrior” diplomats, posted a video clip on social media on October 25 in which Reiwa Shinsengumi Party leader Taro Yamamoto appealed to public support for his party.

Xue added his own comment to the post, saying: β€œIt’s the same in every country in the world, but once politics goes wrong, the country becomes corrupt and ordinary people, except the privileged class, become poor and eventually end up in the hell. .”

With more than 82,000 followers on his X account, Xue’s support quickly attracted attention. Although the post was later deleted, the diplomatic implications continue to unfold.

Jin Matsubara, an independent lawmaker and former chairman of the National Public Security Commission, submitted an official question to the legislature on November 11, asking the Japanese government to respond to claims that Xue’s post violated the Treaty of Vienna on diplomatic relations, which bans envoys. not to interfere in the internal affairs of the host country.
