New cocktail in a can inspired by the Finger Lakes

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — While Richard Peete and Wyatt Russell are professionals in the film and entertainment industry, they are now teaming up to create a new brand of canned cocktails inspired by the Finger Lakes.

Peete is a film and commercial director and producer who grew up on Lake Canisius.

During the pandemic, he felt his time could be spent creating. He wanted to make a drink that captured the aura and vibe of being by a lake.

So, Peete’s wife reunited him with Wyatt Russell – actor and son of Kurt Russell – and the two spent time sampling new drinks and seltzers. They wanted to find something light and unique, which would be perfect for spending time at the lake.

Since Russell also grew up frequenting lakes in Canada, they both decided to get into the drinking game and create “Lake Hour.”

The drink is a canned spirit-based cocktail with a vodka or tequila.

There are currently four flavors available, including Honeysuckle Ginger, Peach Jasmine, which are vodka cocktails, and Rosemary Yuzu and Watermelon Cucumber, which are tequila cocktails.

Peete and Russell spent time tasting all sorts of flavors before choosing the ones they thought were the four best. They specifically wanted unique, fresh flavors without artificial ingredients used in other hard seltzers and canned cocktails.

Although it can be difficult to get into the beverage business, due to competition from popular drinks such as White Claw, Truly, and High Noon. Peete and Russell stay focused on their goal: trying to make a drink with the American feeling of being at the lake and celebrating a fun culture.

Currently, Lake Hour is still a family operation with all merchandise shipped for Peete’s basement.

However, the couple have just hired their first two employees to help them, and would certainly be happy if their drink could disrupt the drinks market.
