Lovers & Friends ticket holders question ‘strong wind warning’ after festival’s abrupt cancellation

Music fans and festival-goers are in shock after a highly anticipated music festival was canceled this weekend in Las Vegas.

The annual Lovers & Friends festival, which boasted a lineup of nearly 80 artists, released a statement around 10 p.m. PT the day before the May 4 event, citing a “high wind warning” of up to 60 mph. be the cause of the cancellation. Janet Jackson, Alicia Keys, the Backstreet Boys and Canada’s Nelly Furtado were some of the heavy hitters included in this one-day-only event.

“This was an incredibly heartbreaking decision to make as we recognize that fans have come from all over the world to enjoy this incredible superstar lineup and have been looking forward to this event for several months,” the festival said via its website.

“We worked hard to create an incredible event for you, and we’re just as disappointed as you are.”

The festival is hosted by Live Nation and “Lovers and Friends” singer Usher, who took to X to express his frustrations with the event’s outcome.

“I’m as disappointed as you,” he posted.

“I’m sorry we can’t see each other today, but please know that I’m still working on something to express my sincere gratitude to each of you who continues to support me.”

Many festival-goers on TikTok who flew from out of town to Las Vegas were shocked and confused by the cancellation, with some looking for the allegedly dangerous weather that was worth pulling the plug on.

All was not lost for some participants. Hip-hop icons Snoop Dogg and T-Pain, who were also part of the festival’s stellar lineup, stuck around after the last-minute cancellation. The duo staged an impromptu show at Resorts World’s Ayu Dayclub to lighten the spirits of disappointed fans.

The festival says fans who purchased tickets will receive a full refund within 30 days.
