The One Show suffers live error after guests get stuck in elevator

The One Show suffered a live glitch during Wednesday’s (December 13) episode when the two celebrity guests were late to bed… because they were stuck in a lift.

Co-hosts Alex Jones and Ronan Keating had to explain that they would be switching to a video segment instead of chatting with guests at the normal time because Stephen Fry and Sheridan Smith were stuck in a lift together.

“Now we’re having an evening here. Because Stephen Fry and Sheridan Smith have to sit on the couch. Obviously it’s a live show. They’re stuck in an elevator. So for now we’ll move on to a movie,” Alex admitted.

Ronan then shared that Stephen and Sheridan are “fine,” adding, “I hope they’ll be here before the show ends.”

The duo moved on to a video, after which Stephan and Sheridan (luckily!) appeared on the couch. And it seemed like they had a sense of humor about the whole thing, too.

Sheridan put his hand over his mouth while laughing at the incident, while Stephen joked: “Santa’s sleigh ride is a bit stuck.”

The BBC show then continued as normal after showing a photo of the two smiling while trapped together, with Stephen promoting his Jeopardy UK hosting gig and Sheridan discussing his new series, The Castaways.

At the end of the show, Alex couldn’t help but apologize for the awkward moment that delayed the duo’s interview.

“I’m so sorry for your experience,” she joked.

However, being a live nightly show, this is of course not the first time The One Show has suffered a live blunder. In 2021, guest Paddy McGuinness accidentally swore on air, while Alex had to apologize after causing a laugh a few weeks later.

Most recently, Alex made a bit of a mix-up live on the show when she mixed up the resumes of Asa Butterfield and Daniel Mays.

Never a dull moment!
