Macklemore launches pro-Palestinian ‘Hind’s Hall’ bid inspired by Columbia University student protests

All profits from “Hind’s Hall” will be donated to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

American rapper Macklemore has released a new pro-Palestinian song on social media. “Hind’s Hall” was inspired by the pro-Palestinian student protests currently taking place around the world, particularly those at Columbia University in New York.

All profits from “Hind’s Hall” will be donated to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) once the song is available on streaming platforms, said the artist.

The song was inspired by Columbia University student protesters who occupied the campus’s Hamilton Hall last week and renamed it “Hind’s Hall” in tribute to six-year-old Hind Rajab, who was killed by the Israeli army in Gaza.

The protests at Columbia University are just one of many across the world. On Friday, at Trinity College, dozens of students erected tents, forming a blockade in front of the Book of Kells exposure. The boycott sees students calling on the university to end all business and academic ties with Israel over the war in Gaza.

Macklemore’s latest piece echoes the students’ calls for a ceasefire in the besieged territory and an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestine.

Macklemore has repeatedly stated his strong support for Palestine and his efforts to highlight atrocities in Gaza. The artist has donned the Palestinian keffiyeh – a traditional garment – during several concerts and even participated in a pro-Palestinian demonstration in Washington last December.

The song is not yet available on streaming platforms, but a music video posted to Instagram garnered over 10 million views and over 400,000 likes in the first 13 hours after it went live. Once available, all profits from “Hind’s Hall” will be donated to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
