Supreme Court orders temporary suspension of cancellation of 24,000 appointments

Supreme Court orders temporary suspension of cancellation of 24,000 appointments

The notorious school cash scam jobs relate to various illegal recruitments allegedly carried out in primary and secondary schools in the state during the 2016 recruitment process.

Over 23 lakh candidates had appeared for the exams for the 24,000 vacancies in 2016. It had been alleged before the High Court that most of the candidates got jobs after misvaluing the OMR sheets.

The High Court bench Debangsu Basak And Md Shabbar Rashidi noted that it was not clear which answer sheets of the 23 lakh had been properly evaluated and hence ordered revaluation of all papers of the recruitment entrance exams while canceling the appointments made.

He also ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to continue investigating the recruitment scam.

Several people, including former education minister Partha Chatterjee and Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs Manik Bhattacharya and Jiban Krishna Saha, are behind bars for their alleged involvement in the scam, along with suspended leaders of the TMC like Santanu Kundu and Kuntal Ghosh.
