Texas Longhorns will have no shortage of motivation for the Texas A&M rivalry

After more than a decade apart, the Texas Longhorns and Texas A&M Aggies are set to restart the Lone Star Showdown.

On Nov. 30, the Horns will travel to College Station for their first meeting with the Aggies since 2011 — a game Texas won 27-25 in dramatic fashion thanks to a game-winning field goal from Justin Tucker as the clocks hit zero.

This is a game that many Longhorns and Aggies fans are clamoring to see return. Not only for the bragging rights within their respective families or workplaces, but also for the pageantry and drama that surrounds every snap every time the two teams face off on the field, dating back to 1894.

Now that the Longhorns are headed to the SEC in 2024, the best rivalry in college sports can finally return.

But after the game has been dormant for almost 13 years, there are also questions about whether or not the game will carry the same weight for fans or players.

But according to Texas coach Steve Sarkisian, it won’t be difficult for his team to get motivated for this rivalry.

“The question is all the changes that are happening in college football like NIL, the transfer portal, conference realignment, etc. — we have a lot of things going on right now,” Sarkisian told the Houston Touchdown Club. “But with this change, what’s coming is renewing the rivalry with A&M and figuring out how to bring our players that we recruit back into the vigor of that rivalry that I think you all have enjoyed for decades and years. decades. It’s not difficult at all.

Heading into the newly reignited rivalry, the Longhorns are poised to compete for an SEC title, a College Football Playoff berth and a national title — something the Aggies would certainly love to spoil when their arch rivals enter Kyle Field the first Saturday after. Thanksgiving.
