Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

On May 2, members of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office DWI Task Force conducted a traffic stop for a Chapter 20 violation.

After the traffic stop, a K9 was called to assist. After a positive K9 alert regarding the odor of narcotics, a probable cause search was conducted on the vehicle.

After the search, Melissa Rochelle Crawford, 54, of Hampstead, was found in possession of a large quantity of illegal narcotics and drug paraphernalia inside her vehicle.

Crawford was charged with trafficking and transportation of Level I methamphetamine, trafficking in Level I methamphetamine, felony possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and of simple possession of Sch. IV.

Crawford was placed in the Wayne County Jail under a $150,000 secured bond.
